Why did my file upload fail?

Check the most common reasons a trade history upload fails and what to correct before retrying.

If a file upload fails, the issue is usually related to one of the following:

  • the file format is not supported
  • required columns are missing
  • the wrong template was used
  • the selected timezone does not match the file
  • the data contains invalid or incomplete values

Step 1: Check the file type

Make sure the file format matches what the selected account or template supports.

Examples may include:

  • CSV
  • XLS
  • XLSX

If you are using a platform-specific import, double-check that the file was exported in the correct format.

Step 2: Check the template or column structure

If you are importing a generic template, confirm that:

  • all required columns exist
  • the column names are correct
  • the correct template type was used
  • row values are in the expected format

If the source includes stable trade IDs, repeat uploads are much safer because TraderSign can usually match the same rows reliably. If the source does not include stable IDs, repeat uploads depend on best-effort matching and should be treated more carefully.

Step 3: Check the timezone selection

If the file uploads but the data looks wrong, the problem may be timezone-related.

If the timezone selected during import does not match the file, trades may appear on the wrong time or day.

Step 4: Review Import History

Open:

Settings → Import History

Look at the failed import and review the issues shown there.

This is often the fastest way to see exactly which part of the upload failed.

Common fixes

  • re-export the file from the broker using the correct format
  • download and use the correct template
  • fix missing or invalid columns
  • choose the correct timezone
  • retry the upload after correcting the data

Best practice

If you are testing file imports for the first time, start with a small sample export first. It is easier to troubleshoot a smaller file than a large import with many issues.
